Bound

"No, you can't do that."
Bind my arms
And tell me that the possible
Is impossible.

"That can't be done."
Bind my legs
And tell me they are
Too weak to walk,
Much less run.

"Sorry, we can't do it."
Bind my tongue
And tell me not to
Ask for help because
It is futile. No one
Will help me.

Bind me
So I can only
Go so far,
Do so much,
Be what you want
Me to be, an
Appendage to
You life, but
What of mine?

So bound am I
That I've lost hope
For myself and
Place mine hope in
A child unborn,
Not even conceived.

So bound am I,
That I dream
Grand, voluptuous dreams
For children who have
Neither breath or hearts.

So bound am I
That I am ever
So close to
Mummification that
The life I loathe
Is so perfectly
Preserved.

So bound am I
That I am now
Ready to become
Undone.

This reminds me of men & women bound in some ways- debt, tradition, marriage or a relationship that stifles rather than frees the spirit ~ I hope the undoing is much welcomed ~

Interesting. Reminds me of so many dreams I've had, being bogged down with sure doom headed my way and no way to escape. Recently I've begun practicing the art of flying in my dreams because, once I realize it's a dream, I know that I can do anything I want... I'd like to apply that to my actual conscience life too, but my arms seem to be tied...

The ties between people can be so strong.. And being bound can stop the growth. I'm reminded of Sting and his song: if you love someone set them free...

it surely is time to get rid of the things that bind people... it is sad that there's still so much oppression and lately it even seems to increase if you look at certain countries

This is such a powerful piece - and I like the metaphor very very much.

In so many times we are offered a choice when we are bound to accept it - so wonderfully depicted.

In a world that craves freedom at all levels, this is a unique piece.

Bondage is such a powerful concept. I like how you've used it against itself, to find freedom. A strong, bleak piece, great imagery. Well done. xVivienne, of OneVoicePoetry

what we bind on earth we bind in heaven...and what we loose on earth we loose in heaven...

there are some good aspects of bound...and then there are those that suffocate us...

This gave me a feeling of being stifled, of severe oppression or repression.

There is so much pain wanting to be touched gently, to be healed. It is symbolic of our world right now.
