When did you begin writing poetry?
I wrote my first poem for an assignment for English in Second Form. The teacher was impressed my the poem and told me I had a talent for poetry. The poem was about my favourite city at the time, New York, and I've been writing poems ever since.

What and who inspired you to write poems?
The aforementioned English teacher got me started and life inspired me to write poems. Different circumstances inspire me, like one of my first poems was about rape. Some of my poems are about situations I, personally, have never been in but because I have a good imagination, I can get the idea across very well.

When you began writing poems was there any one who encouraged you?
If yes, would you care to name them?
My mother encouraged me in the beginning and as time passed it was something I just did. As long as I had an empty sheet of paper, I was good. I would either write a poem on it or doodle.

What are most of your poems about?
Most of my poems are about life, love and every now and then crime. A couple years ago I was watching a program about the lady who wrote the Harry Potter books, J.K. Rowling. She said that the story for Harry Potter came to her on a train ride and at the time, I didn't completely get what that meant. Then one day, I sat down and wrote a poem without have a premise in mind, and it became one of my favourite poems. I mention this because it shows you don't have to force something that will come when its ready.

What have you done locally?
About five years ago, I hosted a poetry night called Po[e]try at the Cappuccino Lounge. After that died away, I've taken part at numerous poetry nights on island. I try to attend the open mic at Best of Books on the second Saturday of the month. I love the idea of spoken word and have been a fan of Def Poetry Jam ever since it started.

What is in store in terms of the future?
I'm working on my first book of poetry, it is one of the things I wanted to do in my lifetime. The content is set it's just a matter of organizing it and organizing the promotion of it. So look out for my first book in 2011.
