Her Sexuality

source

Her sexuality

Was like a rose.

Starting as
A tight bud
That slowly
Unfurled itself
Until it's beauty
Was revealed.

A rose that
Dared all to
Observe it's
Beauty.
Dared all to
Pick it despite
It's thorns.

Thorns that drew
Blood as red
As that rose,
But it was
Worth it,
Picking that rose,
That is.

With time,
Her sexuality
Began to fade,
Petal by petal
Falling away,
Leaving nothing behind
But memories
Of her glory days.

"But isn't that
The case with
All things,"
She would say,
Lying to herself.

I happen to think sexuality is a state of mind, unconnected to the aging of the body - and at my age, I think I can tell the difference! lol

I hate to think of it as fading, I have found such beauty in every part of my life so far...but then again, that is what old people say isn't it....lie after lie....lol. Loved this social comment.

...I think she missed the point.... sexuality is from the heart mostly - selfishness is from the body. Of course, both is the best, but it really is nothing without a beautiful heart.

I know sexy young things that can't hold a candle to many older women... but this is coming from a middle aged woman ;P

The lies we tell ourselves to justify our state of mind...

Poignant words made an interesting conversation here. Linke Jinsky said, sexuality is a state of mind. I think the body is the expression of it, just like words are the expression of our thoughts. There's beauty beyond that "fading," but it all depends on the mindset.

Wow, this really surprised me. The ending is even more powerful than I thought it was going to be. As I turn 50 this year, and note my sexuality shifting, I see this as a metaphor for the loss of vitality, of urgency, and the acceptance of things the way they are - although secretly wishing it were not so. Great job, Mosk

And so the seasons of life change but there is always much to be thankful for. Sex becomes more about love than lust,eh?

Great use of the metaphor of the rose blooming and fading ~ I like to think I get better with my age ~ Up to a certain age, but beyond that, I like my energetic self ~

An excellent write, with an unexpected ending ~

A thought provoking poem indeed. I like to think sex continues to exist throughout life...may change but always IS!

oh heck...makes me feel sad for her...the withering away before time..and how often do we lie to ourselves.. all too human

It is sad to come to a point of believing that the best is behind you. Personally, I don't buy into the contemporary myth that sex is everything - and the beautiful way you handle words shows me that you don't really either/

constantly transforming...really, I think sex gets better as we age... though I'm not quite 50 yet... I think it gets better because we learn to love more and more and that expands the experience.
