You Intoxicate Me

YELLOW ON BOARD

You intoxicate me.

You are like
That first shot of
Tequila
That goes down fast
And burns away all
My worries.

You intoxicate me.

You are
The second glass of
Vodka
That warms me up
On a cold winters evening
When I don’t want to be
Alone.

You intoxicate me.

You are like
The third glass of
Wine,
Blurring the edges
Of my reality,
But it’s good for me,
It’s red wine.

You intoxicate me.

You are like
The fourth glass of Whiskey.
Smooth in flavour,
Warming my soul,
Burning away my
Inhibitions.

You intoxicate me.

You are my
Fifth bottle of beer
That still has to
Give me a buzz,
Leaving me feeling
Nothing,
So I reach for my sixth bottle.

You intoxicate me.

You are…
You are becoming
A habit,
Ugly and sinister.
Mornings, I wake up
With pain and
Regret.
I regret being with
You.

You intoxicate me.

I realize I have
A problem,
But really, is there
A 12-step program
To get over
You?

You intoxicate me,
No more.

Like with alcohol,
Like with drugs,
Like with any other addictive substance,
It won’t be easy,
But I will quit
You.

You intoxicate me,
No more.

I quit you.
